Booker's Small Batch # 4 “NOE STRANGERS BATCH" Bourbon Whiskey

Booker's Bourbon

750 ml | 62.2% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

The second release of the Booker’s® Bourbon 2021 Collection is Booker’s Batch 2021-02 ‘Tagalong Batch.’ This batch celebrates the way my dad, Booker Noe, learned the ropes at the distillery - by ‘tagging along’ with his grandfather and my great grandfather, Jim Beam.

The fourth release of the Booker’s® Bourbon 2021 Collection is Booker’s Batch 2021-04 ‘Noe Strangers Batch. This batch celebrates the genuine, social nature of my dad, Booker Noe, and the way he could turn a stranger into a friend for life in no time.

Growing up, the distillery was like Dad’s playground; he loved spending time with his grandfather and everyone else who worked there, asking questions and expanding his knowledge. That’s ultimately how he developed his curiosity and passion for whiskey, and it was how he became such a talented Master Distiller.

The tradition of ‘tagging along’ has continued from generation to generation. I learned much of what I know about whiskey by following in Dad’s footsteps, digesting all of the information I could while working side-by-side at the distillery. It’s also a tradition I continued with my son Freddie, and one I hope he’ll share with his children in the future.

Tagging along had some other rewards too, such as heading to the nearby lake to cast a line together after a hard day’s work. We all have fond memories of that quality time, and I hope you enjoy this batch as part of your quality time with family and friends too.

P.S: The available Release will be shipped when the order is processed.

Wathen's Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Wathen's

750 ml | 47% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

Situated along the banks of the Ohio River in Owensboro, Kentucky, the Medley Distilling Company is stewarded by Charles and Sam Medley, a father-and-son team who represent the seventh and eighth generation master distillers in their family. The Medley's roots run back to the birth of Kentucky bourbon; while Reverend Elijah Craig is usually credited with producing the first bourbon whiskey at his mill in Lebanon in 1789, the Medley's ancestors were distilling whiskey prior to that time in the adjacent county in Kentucky. In fact, except during the thirteen years during which distillation was outlawed in the United States, a member of the Medley family has been operating a distillery continuously since 1812. Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Thomas Aquinas Medley began distillation and maturation of a new bourbon in honor of his family's rich history. Thomas died shortly thereafter, but the Medley Distilling Company continued to produce Kentucky bourbon for the next five decades. Today, under the tutelage of Charles and Samuel Medley, the distillery continues to distill bourbon using the same recipes and techniques that the previous generations of Medleys perfected decades ago. Wathen's Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is made from a mash of corn, rye and malted barley. After the grains have been harvested, they are milled and mashed before being fermented with an eight-generation old yeast strain (the unique strain of Medley Family yeast has been inherited by each generation of Medley's since the 19th century, and remains a closely-guarded family secret). Following fermentation, the wash is distilled through a copper-pot still before being aged in new, charred American oak casks under the Kentucky sun. After the bourbon has matured for approximately eight years, Charles and Sam Medley taste each individual cask to determine when it is ripe for bottling. Since each bottle of Wathen's Single Barrel Bourbon is bottled from a single cask rather than being crafted from a batch of casks, each bottle of Wathen's is slightly different and entirely interesting.

Larceny Very Special Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Larceny

750 ml | 46% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

According to the legend, John E. Fitzgerald founded a distillery along the banks of the Kentucky River shortly after the Civil War ended. Fitzgerald began distilling bourbon and selling it to passengers aboard the trains and steamships that passed through town. Shortly thereafter, Fitzgerald sold his brand "Old Fitzgerald Bourbon" to Julian P. "Pappy" Van Winkle for $10,000, a small fortune at the time. Pappy moved production of Old Fitz to his distillery, where it became one of the most famous bourbons in the world. But if you ask Sally Van Winkle (Pappy's granddaughter), the story of John E. Fitzgerald and Old Fitz Bourbon is slightly more complicated and certainly more interesting. In 1999, Van Winkle revealed that Fitzgerald was not the man nor the distiller he claimed to be he was, in fact, a bonded treasury agent. At the time, the Treasury Department was tasked with collecting taxes levied on spirits and as such, bonded treasury agents were the only people legally allowed to carry the keys to barrel storage warehouses. Fitzgerald did have a discerning palate for fine bourbon and would use his warehouse keys to pilfer the best barrels of bourbon as they aged. The barrels, which became known as "Fitzgerald barrels," and the brand were immortalized when Pappy Van Winkle named Old Fitzgerald bourbon after the treasury agent, and added a "Whisper of Wheat "to his bourbon's recipe. By using wheat rather than rye as the secondary grain in the bourbon's mash bill, Pappy imparted a rounder, softer flavor profile in Old Fitz as compared to other bourbons at the time. Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon pays homage to both John E. Fitzgerald's superb taste and the legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand. Made from a mash of corn, wheat, malted barley and rye, Larceny Bourbon carries on the tradition of Old Fitz by using wheat as the bourbon's secondary grain rather than rye. As a result, Larceny Bourbon has a sweeter, softer flavor profile as compared to bourbons that use rye as their secondary grain. After the grains are milled, they are cooked in Kentucky limestone water and fermented using a proprietary strain of yeast. Following fermentation, the mash is distilled through 70-foot tall column stills and the resulting bourbon is aged in honey barrels for six to twelve years. After aging, the casks are blended and brought to 92 proof before being bottled. The resulting bourbon has notes of sweet corn, honey, vanilla and light cinnamon, along with a hint of oak and rye that provides for a subtle edge. Larceny Bourbon earned a score of 93 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in 2013, and a score of 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. In addition, it was named one of the top 20 spirits in the world by F. Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal and named a "Best Buy" by Whisky Magazine. Quite simply, Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a steal.

Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon Whiskey

Hillrock

750 ml | 46% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

In the early 1800s, the State of New York was responsible for the production of more than half of the barley and rye harvested in the United States. The Hudson Valley, which extends from New York City northward through Albany, was the country's original breadbasket and was home to thousands of farms, hundreds of which distilled the excess grains they harvested into whiskey. In the 1930's, the onset of Prohibition forced these farmers to abandon their stills. Today, in a 19th century Georgian mansion situated in the heart of the Hudson Valley, Master Distiller Dave Pickerell pays homage to the New York farmers who produced their whiskey from grains to glass. Pickerell, who graduated from West Point with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, served in the military for 11 years as a cavalry officer before receiving his Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisville. Then, Pickerell served as Master Distiller as Maker's Mark in Loretto, Kentucky for 13 years. There, he was responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of Maker's Mark Bourbon. A former chairman of the Kentucky Distillers Association and a member of the Distilled Spirits Council, Pickerell is an expert nonpareil in the production of whiskey. Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon is the world's first solera aged bourbon. Solera aging is a process that has generally been reserved for aging cognacs, ports and sherries. It involves filling a series of casks at different intervals over a long period of time. As whiskey from the oldest cask is emptied and bottled, the cask is re-filled with an equivalent amount of whiskey from the second-oldest cask in the solera. This cascading effect continues until the youngest cask in the solera is filled with new whiskey. As a result, no cask in the solera is ever fully emptied. In addition, as the younger whiskey ages and cascades through the solera, its average age and complexity gradually increases over time. Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon marries Hillrock Estate Bourbon with a mature seed bourbon that was carefully sourced by Pickerell. After cascading through the solera, Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon is finished in 20 year old Oloroso Sherry casks. The finishing process balances the spicy rye flavors of the bourbon and adds further complexity, with layers of fig, roasted walnuts and candied fruit. The current age of Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon is over six years and the rye content is approximately 37%. Hillrock Bourbon was named one of the Top 50 Spirits of 2013 by Wine Enthusiast (it was ranked the #2 bourbon), which gave it a score of 96 points. It also earned the SiIlver Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013.

Four Roses Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Four Roses

750 ml | 50% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

On the banks of the Salt River, nestled in the quiet Kentucky countryside near Lawrenceburg, Four Roses Distillery is a testament to American ingenuity and perseverance. Built in 1910 to resemble the architecture of California wineries, the distillery now listed on the National Register of Historic Places was one of six distilleries that was granted permission to operate during Prohibition. Following Prohibition, Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon became the top-selling bourbon in the United States. In 1943, Seagram's bought the distillery and a decade later, discontinued the sale of Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon. In 2002, the distillery changed hands again, and the new owner brought a renewed sense of purpose and vigor to Four Roses. Four Roses Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is made from a mash of 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% malted barley. Straight bourbon must be aged for a minimum of two years Four Roses Bourbon is aged for a minimum of eight years in newly charred, white-oak casks. The high rye content in the bourbon creates a rich, spicy flavor and gives the bourbon notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. A proprietary yeast culture used to ferment the mash produces a light, fruity balance to the spiciness and the aging process gives the bourbon notes of maple syrup and caramel. While most distilleries age bourbon in warehouses that are many stories high, Four Roses ages its bourbon in a one-story warehouse to ensure that each barrel is aged in a similar environment. In addition, each bottle of Four Roses available through is the product of a single barrel (rather than a blend of multiple barrels), giving each bottle a unique flavor profile and history.

Noah's Mill Small Batch Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

Noah's Mill

750 ml | 57% ABV
Whiskey | Bourbon

Following the defeat of the British at the Battle of Yorktown during the American Revolutionary War in 1781, the territory west of the Appalachian mountains became known as Kentucky County. At the time, the territory was considered part of Virginia, and was overseen by a military governor named John J. Bowman. In order to encourage westward expansion, Virginia issued pioneers who agreed to settle in Kentucky County "corn writs," which granted the pioneers 60 acres of land if they agreed to settle in Kentucky and start farming corn. Within a decade, some 2,000 farmers had settled and begun growing corn in Kentucky County. In order to prevent spoilage of the excess grains they harvested there was a massive increase in the supply of corn as a result of the corn writs, with no corresponding increase in demand these farmers began milling and mashing their excess corn, and distilling it into bourbon. Noah's Mill Small Batch Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey pays homage to these early pioneers and their entrepreneurial spirit. The bourbon is crafting by marrying together no more than twenty casks of Kentucky bourbon, each of which has its own unique characteristics and flavor profile. In contrast to most small batch bourbons, the casks used to craft Noah's Mill have varying mashbills while some casks are composed of bourbons that use rye as a secondary grain, others are composed of bourbons that use wheat as a secondary grain. The varying recipes the percentage of rye and wheat used also varies among the casks results in a layered bourbon that has a virtually unparalleled depth and complexity. After the casks of bourbon have been allowed to mature for up to 20 years, small batches of the bourbon are bottled at 114.30 proof. Noah's Mill Small Batch Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey has an aroma of dark coffee, vanilla, raisins and toffee. The initial hints of figs, dates, and dark fruits give way to notes of cocoa, marmalade, berries, roasted nuts and toffee, and lead to a lengthy, spicy finish. Noah's Mill Bourbon earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012, and was "highly recommended" by F. Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal. In addition, it earned a score of 93 points from Jim Murray's Whisky Bible in 2012.
