Created in a kitchen in L.A. in 2019, this unique aquavit recipe was developed and perfected by three best friends.

Batch 22 is an American aquavit that has its roots in some of the traditional spirits of Northern Europe; we've added our own twists to make it uniquely smooth, warm, and inviting. It’s an aquavit liquor that pairs effortlessly with an infinite variety of mixers and ingredients.

As a mixer, Batch 22 breathes new life into old standards like, the Bloody Mary, the Manhattan, or the Negroni. As a straight sipper, Batch 22 aquavit offers a complex array of aromas and flavors that beg to be quietly contemplated.

THE FRENCH REVOLUTION

Our namesake is the legendary poet and iconoclast François Villon (born in 1431), who penned some of France’s most enduring works before disappearing in the late 15th century. The poet’s enigmatic views and tumultuous lifestyle are still evocative and modern, centuries after his death, date and place unknown. Like our namesake, we are rebels.

THE BLEND

Crafted in the heart of beautiful southwestern France, Villon represents a revolution of France’s oldest and most renowned spirits.

Villon is distilled and blended according to a unique, closely-guarded family recipe. It’s smooth, balanced and complex, with luxurious aromas of vanilla, spice, and toasted oak.

THE BOTTLE

The Villon experience begins with the bottle. Our stunning black glass bottle is made from high-end, heavyweight glass with silver and white décor. A tarnished silver “snake and dagger” medallion is the centerpiece of the bottle. An eye-catching, heavyweight embossed stopper and gorgeous embossed details on the rear and bottom of the bottle complete a luxurious package that stands apart from any other liquor in your collection.

Naked Diablo’s Añejo is aged to perfection in smaller batches for a minimum of 16 months in 10 year old Bourbon oak barrels. Meaning “white” or “silver”, is considered to be the true expression of the agave plant. It is an unaged spirit that is bottled within 2 months of distillation.

Naked Diablo’s Blanco is bottled after a second distillation in order to keep it’s natural characteristics together with transparency and brightness. Produced in smaller batches for a maximum quality. Complex, mild and wonderfully smooth, this white tequila is full-bodied and strikes the perfect balance between agave, pepper, citrus and melons with notes of vanilla and baking spices.

Meaning “extra aged” or “vintage”, aged for over 3 years. Perfect balance of sweetness from the Blue agaves, with subtle hints of spice and barrel oak, with a lingering smooth finish.

The original Wolfburn Distillery was founded in 1821 by William Smith, on the outskirts of Thurso in Caithness, Scotland. The distillery took its name from the watercourse it drew from, burn being the Scottish word for stream or small river. As Smith invested heavily in the distillery, it became a significant enterprise for the region tax records for the 19th century show it was the largest producer of malt Whisky in Caithness. The distillery was kept in the Smith family until at least the 1850s, when records become scarce and it's estimated that production began to cease (a survey map from 1972 depicts the distillery in ruin). After 150 years of neglect, a group of private investors stumbled upon the old Wolfburn Distillery in May, 2011 seeing massive potential, the investor began to rebuild the distillery from the ground up. The new Wolfburn Distillery, which, by law, must use water sourced from the same steam used centuries ago, is crafting unpeated malt Whisky from a blank canvas through old-fashioned pot-still distillation; no automation, no rush and a lot of care. Master Distiller Shane Fraser, formerly of Glenfarclas, says, My very first thoughts on what kind of spirit Wolfburn should be were that it should be a light and fragrant spirit. This would come about by a number of key processes; slow drainage of the mash tun to give a clear wort; long fermentations and a gentle distillation but keeping the spirit collection above 20C. When I first nosed the spirit I was very pleased and surprised at just how well it had turned out. Wolfburn Single malt aurora is mellow and golds, smooth and warming (producer). Aged in a combination of American oak and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks that together create a beautifully smooth, perfectly balanced Whisky. Inspired by the ethereal northern lights phenomena, Wolfburn's Aurora received 92 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in 2017.

We source these spirits of varying types, light whiskey, rye, bourbon, etc. to create our own blends and products. These products are bottled at either barrel strength or blended to create our signature flavors. That being said, all of our creations, whether it’s a single barrel bottling or one of our blended products, will be unique either to that particular barrel or batch. No two will ever be “exactly” the same. We strive to ensure flavor consistency
throughout every batch of our blends to give our fans confidence and the comfort of familiarity. That paired with slight variances in each batch, brings a sense of anticipation for the next batch.

At Maker's Mark, our wood-finishing series was created to explore new, unique expressions of our signature whisky. Beginning as fully matured Maker's Mark at cask strength, Private Selection is created by adding 10 custom wood finishing staves to each barrel. It's then aged in our limestone cellar to extract a unique, flavorful taste profile. Participants in this special barrel program get their say in the selection of these wooden staves. The finishing staves can be any combination of five flavor profiles chosen especially for this program. With 1,001 possible stave combinations, each expression of Private Selection has a customized finish and taste profile that is unique, yet undeniably Maker's.

About the Brand

Behind every great brand is a great story. Perhaps that’s the most important lesson we have learned from my many years creating new drinks. We can certainly think of no better story or figurehead for a Scotch Whisky than my ancestor, Mr. Gladstone, and his Axes.

Mr. Gladstone signed the spirits act of 1860 allowing the blending of scotch for the first time – essentially creating the scotch whisky industry that we know today. Known as “THE GRAND OLD MAN” his passion and pastime were felling trees with his trusty collection of axes - people from around the country would come to watch him chopping trees.

Through his progressive ideology, he was instrumental in driving out corruption and passing new laws for the people.

Every batch of Gladstone Axe American Oak is made from 100% malted barley and aged in American oak barrels that were previously used for bourbon production. Aging our scotch whisky in ex-bourbon barrels imparts mellow sweet notes to the blend of malt whiskies that compose this one-of-a-kind scotch. Gladstone Axe American Oak is made from a selection of malt whiskies from 14 different Highland and Islay malt distilleries.
